Ammoommathiri is a noble initiative by the Good Karma Foundation(http://www.goodkarmafoundation.org/). It is an initiative to make wicks for oil lamps out of cotton yarn. The loving hands behind this initiative belong to our poor elders in old age homes. They find relief in this activity to use their time effectively and also to have an additional source of income.
The raw materials are provided for free to the elders. There is no skilled training required as they are used to the process of rolling wicks throughout their life. We sell the rolled wicks to the temples, individuals and institutions. It is a small task which keeps the old aged in poor homes occupied and also helps them earn a living even at this age. Another advantage is that it gives an amazing acupressure effect to their fingers as they twist the cotton fiber.
The challenge which Ammoommathiri faces now is in its sales. We can not offer a large margin to the suppliers. As a result Ammoommathiri couldn’t establish a stable sales chain. It was during a casual discussion with Lakshmi Menon, who is the founder of the Good Karma Foundation, We, ITMilan Seva Foundation decided to take up this challenge and decided to come up with a project to support the Ammommathiri initiative .
Goals
Create a strong consumer base for Ammommathiri.
Create a pool of volunteers who can selflessly contribute to the sales force for Ammommathiri.
Establish a strong supply chain.
